The Roundup Weed Killer Lawsuit

Joe: 106.7 WIZN. That’s Soundgarden in Spoonman. Heard Pink Floyd before that. I’m Joe Vega taking you through your Wednesday, “Rockin’ Ride Home.”

This lawsuit against the company Roundup has been in the news quite a bit lately, so I thought I’d bring my friend, Ben Barry, from Martin, Harding & Mazzotti onto the phone. You can call Ben at any time at 1-800-LAW-1010, or go online to 1800law1010.com. Ben, how you doing?

Ben: Joey Vega, I’m doing great. How are you?

Joe: I’m good. I’m good. Thanks for taking my call again. So I wanted to ask you about this Roundup thing. Been seeing a lot of stuff about… Of course, this is the company that makes, what is it, weed killer, right? And it’s causing cancer. Is that right?

Ben: That’s correct. Roundup is, in fact, the company, and what seems to be the evidence is that Roundup is causing leukemia. And as a result of that, there are several law firms, you can certainly call our law firm to help you out, there are several law firms starting the process of levying claims against the Roundup company for these physical ailments that are being suffered by people who have had some contact and exposure to Roundup. That’s residential and commercial applications both because Roundup actually had a home-based user product, and they also had a commercial application for large-scale, industrial applications.

Joe: I got you. So how would you… I mean, obviously, if, you know, you’re suffering from one of these terrible diseases, how would you know if Roundup caused that? Is there any way to tell that?

Ben: It’s very hard to say. From a legal perspective, lawyers are not in the position to say, what you’re suffering is from this particular chemical. We, as attorneys, leave that to the experts, the doctors, the medical professionals that can say, “This is your ailment, and this ailment is more likely to have been caused by Roundup or has been caused by Roundup,” within a certain degree of medical certainty. So we leave that determination to the professionals. But, certainly, somebody who has had long-term exposure to these chemicals who developed these ailments, there’s a statistical analysis that’s done to say, “Look. It’s more likely than not to have been caused by this particular agent.”

So, likely, if you have this thing and you’ve been using this product, then you wanna call somebody and have your claim explored to see if there’s any merit to your claim. There are certainly cases of individuals having leukemia and lymphomas that have nothing to do with Roundup. That’s clear. But there are a lot of cases, and there’s a very significant sort of population set who have been using Roundup and who are developing the same sort of illness around the same sort of time in the same timeline as their exposure. And so, as attorneys, we really want to scrutinize those cases and take a closer look at them to see if those individuals should be entitled to some monetary compensation for what they’re suffering.

Joe: All right. Thanks for the info, Ben. Ben Barry from Martin, Harding & Mazzotti.

Ben: Joe, thanks for calling. It’s good to talk to you.

Joe: You can call Ben at 1-800-LAW-1010, or go online to 1800law1010.com. All right. I’m outta here. Turning things over to Mel Allen now. He’s got music from Mötley Crüe and Eric Clapton next.
