Spirit of the Capital Region: Social Distancing Edition

Episode 16: The JCC of Schenectady

May 5, 2020

Today we are featuring the The Schenectady JCC, which has adapted to recent changes by going digital! It has become a resource for kids, adults and seniors to stay engaged through activities ranging from story time to exercise classes and personal training to senior socials and much more. The JCC is offering piano lessons and other activities via zoom as well.

You do not have to be a member to access their online programs! View their available programming by visiting their Facebook page and their website, www.schenectadyjcc.org and continue to check back for new content each day!

About Spirit of the Capital Region:

At Martin, Harding & Mazzotti, we have been working on a project called The Spirit of the Capital Region (SOTCR). It’s a video series featuring the many local businesses, events, and charities that those in our area can be proud of. We were set to premiere the series, but due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to take the project in a different direction. Now, we will feature a local small business or organization in a short video blog on weekdays to get the word out about what they are currently offering, and how we as a community can support them (while practicing the recommended social distancing).

We Want to Hear From You!

It’s Tuesday, May 5. My name is Emily, I work for Martin, Harding & Mazzotti and this is the Spirit of the Capital Region: Social Distancing Edition.

Today we are featuring the The Schenectady JCC, which in normal times, may look a little something like this.

But currently, the Schenectady JCC is adapting in an environment where a community center is unable to serve the community and its members in its normal capacity by offering programs online.

The center has gone digital and has become a resource for kids, adults and seniors to stay engaged through activities ranging from story time to exercise classes and personal training to senior socials and much more. The JCC is offering piano lessons and other activities via zoom as well.

They look forward to the day when they can open the doors at the JCC and welcome everyone back. But for now, they encourage you to check out their available programming by visiting their Facebook page and their website, listed here, and continue to check back for new content each day!

Plus, you do not have to be a member to access their online programs! They have made their virtual activities available to all who want to get moving, cooking, or playing.

Make sure to suggest your favorite business or organization in the comments below, or at the website listed in this post. We would love to hear from you!

As always, thank you for listening, and stay well! My name is Emily and this is the Spirit of the Capital Region: Social Distancing Edition.
