The Most Dangerous Intersections Part 2 [January 2015 – December 2016]:

Plattsburgh’s Most Dangerous Intersections

Earlier this year Martin, Harding & Mazzotti analyzed close to 11,000 New York State Department of Transportation car accident records in New York’s Capital Region in an effort to identify the region’s most dangerous intersections.

When we released the information the response was overwhelmingly positive. This response prompted us to extend our efforts across New York State and Vermont to the Counties surrounding each of our office locations.

We issued an expanded FOIL request with the NYSDOT and VTrans (Vermont Agency of Transportation) and received over 200,000 accident records from the 7 requested geographic locations. The end result will be a 7 part series highlighting the most dangerous intersections in each of these locations: Plattsburgh, Utica, Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo, New York City and the State of Vermont.

Below is an analysis of car accident reports in Plattsburgh, New York and its three surrounding Counties; Clinton, Franklin and Essex, from January 2015 – December 2016.

There were 2,014 car accidents reported at intersections in the three counties resulting in 558 injuries and 3 fatalities during this time period.

Why did we undertake this review? We hope that our efforts reviewing and consolidating this data helps raise awareness of these dangerous intersections. Identification can reduce auto accidents, injuries and possibly save lives. Ultimately, that is what we hope to achieve with this review.

*The highest rank score intersection in the Plattsburgh, New York area only had 1 reported accident, however, the accident report listed a commercial vehicle and included 20 injuries.
