Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive form of cancer that attacks the lining of the lungs and other organs in the chest and abdomen. This type of cancer can almost always be traced back to the exposure of asbestos, a natural fiber that was first used in construction projects in the late 1800’s. Gradually it became wide spread throughout the 1950’s-1970’s. Unfortunately, once asbestos is inhaled, it cannot be exhaled. In most mesothelioma cases, asbestos will sit in a patients’ lungs for 15 or more years before complications begin to develop.
Common places for asbestos to be found:
- Ceiling and floor tiles
- Joint compound
- Heat insulation
- Various types of paints
- Automobile brake pads and shoes
- And many other products
