Weber Grill Brush Recall

On February 26, 2026, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall for about 3.2 million Weber metal wire bristle grill brushes because of an ingestion hazard. Customers are advised to immediately cease using the recalled brushes and contact Weber for a free replacement.

What Are Grill Brushes?

Grill brushes contain hundreds of small metal wires set on an open triangle or flat paddle. They are commonly used on a hot grill to remove food residue, grease, or burnt-on carbon bits. They can also be used to clean stove grates before or after cooking to avoid bad flavors, reduce smoke, promote optimum heat transfer, and keep food from sticking.

Why Are Weber Grill Brushes Being Recalled?

According to the CPSC recall:

“Small metal wire bristles can detach from the brushes, stick to the grill or food, posing an ingestion hazard and risk of serious internal injuries that could require surgery.”

The wires are often so tiny that the person operating the grill does not see they have adhered to the grates. The wire bristle may then become embedded into any food placed on the grill. This poses an unseen safety risk to those who consume the food and then consequently ingest the bristle.

If the bristles are swallowed, they may become lodged in the esophagus, stomach, intestines, or digestive tract. This may demand medical attention, or even surgery for the removal of the bristle.

How Many Have Been Injured?

Weber got 38 complaints and negative feedback from customers who reported that the bristles separated from the grill brushes.

There were four reported instances of consumers swallowing the metal-wire bristles and requiring medical attention to have them removed from their digestive tract or throat.

Which Grill Brushes Are Affected?

The recall includes 6 models of Weber® Metal Wire-Bristle Grill Brushes. The grill brushes have handles made of plastic or wood, measuring between 12 and 21 inches in length. Some affected models have an open triangular brush head, and others have a flat, rectangular paddle brush head.

The recall includes grill brushes with model numbers:

  • 6277
  • 6278
  • 6463
  • 6464
  • 6493
  • 6494

See the product packaging to locate the model number.

These brushes were sold from 2011 through 2026 at retailers including Lowe’s, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and Target, as well as online through Amazon and Weber.com.
