My name is Crystle Watts. I am an attorney in the Workers’ Compensation Department, as well as the supervising attorney of the Social Security Disability Department. I never expected to become an attorney. I studied political science for my undergraduate and really thought that I was going to be maybe more into academics, but once I met some folks who were attending Albany Law School, it just kind of dawned on me as an option, and it was really a good mix of everything that I was already interested in. It has the political aspect. You know, legal research and writing are really appealing to me, and I enjoy them both. And I went to Albany Law and here I am. I grew up in Orange County, New York. I went to community college down there, and then bounced around the SUNY system a little bit, western New York and whatnot, and then landed in Albany, and I’ve been here ever since. My background makes it so that I get to be a real human as far as identifying with clients. They understand that we kind of come from similar places oftentimes. You know, my family was working class, blue collar growing up, and a lot of our clients are working physical jobs, and that’s how a lot of these injuries occur, unfortunately. So I think that folks get to talk to me and realize that we’re not all that different from one another, and that I have not only the background experience, but the attention to detail to be able to ensure that they get everything that they’re entitled to and that all their concerns will be addressed. The staff here is excellent. We have folks from all different walks of life with different backgrounds and experience levels and specialties, so it really enables us to be able to come together on difficult problems, on complex cases, and work together to figure out the best solution. I like the law because there is a sort of correct answer, so to speak. You can make arguments on both sides, and that’s what we do, you know, put forth the thing that’s going to most be beneficial to our client, but ultimately there’s a purity of the law wherein we’re trying to get to a correct answer, you know, with a particular fact pattern, applying a particular rule, and getting to a bottom line.

Crystle Watts was raised in Middletown, NY. After high school, she attended Orange County Community College and earned an Honors Associate’s degree in Social Science in 2005. She graduated cum laude from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science.

Crystle went on to study at Albany Law School of Union University. She received the Deans’ Scholarship Award and graduated magna cum laude in 2013. While studying at Albany Law School, Crystle served as a lead articles editor on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Science & Technology. She also participated in the Pro Bono Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, helping low-income individuals prepare and file their tax returns. During her final year of law school, Crystle secured an internship with the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board. She worked on appellate review of Workers’ Compensation decisions in the Office of General Counsel, where she gained foundational knowledge of New York’s compensation system.

In 2014, Crystle was admitted to the New York State Bar. She is thankful for the opportunity to turn her legal knowledge of the Workers’ Compensation system into practical benefits for clients who are injured on the job. Crystle takes pride in helping injured workers secure the medical care and compensation to which they are entitled.
