Today’s featured nonprofit is the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. Currently, they are working hard to ensure vulnerable populations and families under quarantine have access to food, and to keep backpack programs at local schools running.

About SOTCR: Social Distancing Edition

At Martin, Harding & Mazzotti, we have been working on a project called The Spirit of the Capital Region (SOTCR) – a video series featuring the many local businesses, events, and charities that those in our area can be proud of. We were set to premiere the series, but due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to take the project in a different direction: We will now feature a local small business or organization in a short video blog on weekdays to get the word out about what they are currently offering, and how we as a community can support them (while practicing the recommended social distancing).

Hi, my name is Emily, and I work for Martin Harding & Mazzotti. We’ve been featuring local businesses, restaurants and organizations, and getting the word out about how people can best support them during the Coronavirus pandemic. This is The Spirit of the Capital Region: Social Distancing Edition.

Today’s featured nonprofit organization is the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, located in Latham.

Typically, the Food Bank collects donations of food from the food industry, and distributes it to local charitable organizations serving hungry and disadvantaged people in 23 counties.

They provide over 35 million pounds of food per year to 1,000 agencies.

Right now they are partnering with local municipalities and counties for emergency distribution. This helps prevent vulnerable populations from going hungry during this time.

They have also been working with schools to ensure that backpack programs can continue for kids who are dependent on school meals.

Monetary donations are currently the most helpful for the Food Bank to provide for those most in need. They’re encouraging people to visit their website, www.regionalfoodbank.net, and to follow them on social media for the latest updates.
