About SOTCR: Social Distancing Edition

At Martin, Harding & Mazzotti, we have been working on a project called The Spirit of the Capital Region (SOTCR). It’s a video series featuring the many local businesses, events, and charities that those in our area can be proud of. We were set to premiere the series, but due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to take the project in a different direction. Now, we will feature a local small business or organization in a short video blog on weekdays to get the word out about what they are currently offering, and how we as a community can support them (while practicing the recommended social distancing).

We Want to Hear From You!

Make sure to suggest your favorite establishment or nonprofit on our Facebook page!

Hi, my name is Emily. I work for Martin Harding & Mazzotti and this is The Spirit of the Capital Region: Social Distancing Edition.

I think we could all use something a little bit sweet right now. So today’s featured establishment is Uncle Sam’s All American Chocolate Factory. With locations in both Schenectady and Latham, Uncle Sam’s has been a local favorite for more than 80 years. They’ve used the same ingredients, products, and recipes since the 1930’s, and have only added new flavors and candies to their award-winning selection since then.

Their hours are currently 10 to 6 Monday through Saturday during this pandemic, but they will have some seasonal added hours near holidays. For Mother’s Day, they expect to be open two Sundays: the 3rd and the 10th of May.

They say they would gladly deliver to nursing centers, rehabs, and assisted living facilities.

To view their wide selection of chocolate and candy, visit unclesamscandy.com.

They have secure online ordering, offer postal shipping, curbside pickup, and local area delivery as well as safe, socially-distanced in-store shopping.

They’ll be taking a vacation at their Latham shop from Sunday, April 19th through Thursday, April 30th, but their Schenectady shop remains open.

They want you to know that they follow all CDC and health department rules. Their staff all wear masks, and customers are asked to do the same per CDC guidelines.

The folks at Uncle Sam’s all hope to get through this together, and respect social distancing during this crisis.

And they plan to remain open to provide the much-needed chocolate treats that keep our spirits up!

This past month, they have done candy giveaways to medical workers and other employees at essential facilities. Keep an eye out on their social media for more giveaways in May.

As always, feel free to leave your suggestions for the next business or organization we should feature right here in the comments.

Thanks for listening and stay well. My name is Emily and this is The Spirit of the Capital Region: Social Distancing Edition.
