A Personal Injury Lawyer Defines Liability

We asked attorney Samantha Cahill to briefly explain the legal concept of liability. She described it as, “Liability is when someone is at fault or responsible for a situation. For example, your landlord is liable if they do not salt or sand the sidewalks in front of your apartment, and you slip and fall and get hurt.”

Unfortunately, when someone exhibits negligence, or lack of due care, the situation can result in injuries, for which the negligent party may then be held liable. Whether it be in a car accident, a fall at a poorly maintained property, or a medical professional not living up to the standard of care, there are many cases in which someone could be liable when someone else gets hurt.
